Terms of Service

Effective May 10, 2026

Draft pending legal review. This document is a working draft and has not yet been reviewed by an attorney. It is not legal advice and may not satisfy all applicable requirements until reviewed and approved.

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of CampusScouts (“the Service”), a college-planning subscription product operated by CampusScouts (“we,” “us,” “our”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use CampusScouts. Users between 13 and 18 must have a parent or guardian who agrees to these Terms on their behalf. You must provide accurate information when registering and keep it up to date.

2. Subscriptions and billing

  • CampusScouts offers two plans: Scout ($12/month) and Scout Pro ($29/month). A valid credit card is required to start a subscription, and your card is charged immediately at checkout.
  • Your card is automatically charged the monthly subscription fee until you cancel. Refunds may be requested by contacting support@campusscouts.com and are reviewed on a case-by-case basis at our discretion.
  • You can cancel anytime from the Settings page or via the Stripe customer portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — there are no partial-month refunds.
  • We may change pricing with at least 30 days' advance notice. Price changes do not affect the current billing period.
  • Failed payments will result in your account being downgraded after a brief grace period. Repeated failures will deactivate your account.

3. What CampusScouts is — and is not

CampusScouts aggregates publicly available information about colleges, scholarships, and admissions, and presents it personalized to your profile. We also operate an AI counselor (Scout Pro only) that provides general college-planning information.

We are not a college admissions consultant, financial aid advisor, or guarantor of admission or scholarship outcomes. Match scores, scholarship eligibility estimates, and AI counselor responses are informational only. Always verify requirements, deadlines, and award amounts directly with the school or scholarship provider before making decisions.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Share your account credentials with anyone else.
  • Scrape, mirror, or redistribute our data without written permission.
  • Use the AI Counselor to generate content that is illegal, harassing, or violates Anthropic's Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Submit false or misleading information in your profile to manipulate scholarship matches.
  • Attempt to bypass paywalls, rate limits, or authentication.
  • Use the service to send unsolicited communications to coaches, schools, or other users.

We may suspend or terminate any account that violates these terms, with or without notice.

5. Content and ownership

All data, software, design, and branding on CampusScouts are owned by us or licensed to us. Third-party content (school descriptions, news articles, scholarship listings) belongs to the respective publishers — we link to original sources rather than republishing copyrighted material.

You retain ownership of any profile data you submit. You grant us a limited license to use that data solely to operate the Service for you.

6. Campus Rep affiliate program

If you participate in the Campus Rep program, you agree to the following additional terms:

  • Commission is $5 per paying subscriber who signs up with your referral code and completes their first full month of payment.
  • Payouts are made monthly, manually, in v1. You must provide accurate payout details.
  • You may not buy ads using the CampusScouts brand name without written approval.
  • You may not enroll yourself as a referred member to generate commissions on your own account.
  • We may pause or remove any affiliate who engages in fraudulent referrals, spam, or other abuse.

7. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that scholarship data, ACT/SAT ranges, or AI counselor responses are complete or current.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of or in connection with the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages.

9. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time by cancelling your subscription. We may terminate or suspend your account for violation of these Terms, non-payment, or at our discretion with reasonable notice. Sections relating to ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and dispute resolution survive termination.

10. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of [STATE], without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in [COUNTY, STATE]. You and CampusScouts each waive any right to a jury trial.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced via email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.
